June Sucker
Chasmistes liorus
- The body is dark gray or brownish on top, fading to a white or slightly greenish belly.
- It grows up to about 24 inches long. Larger specimens can weigh around 5 pounds.
- Unlike the similar Utah sucker, the June sucker's mouth points more forward (rostrally), not downward, because it feeds in open water rather than on the bottom.
- The belly is noticeably paler (white or slightly greenish) compared to the darker gray or brown back.
