Splake
null
- Splake show a mix of markings from both brook trout and lake trout parents, so look for features of both species on the same fish.
- Like brook trout, splake have speckled or spotted patterning on their sides, inherited from their 'speckled trout' parent.
- The tail shape falls between the deeply forked tail of a lake trout and the square tail of a brook trout. Less forked than a pure laker but not as square as a pure brookie.
- Splake grow noticeably faster than either parent species, so a large, heavy-bodied char in a stocked lake may well be a splake rather than a pure brook or lake trout.
