Utah Sucker
Catostomus ardens
- The back is dark blackish with faint blotches or spots, while the belly is bright white. A sharp contrast top to bottom.
- Look for a narrow pinkish-rosy stripe running along the front portion of each side, extending back from the head.
- The mouth is fully underneath the snout (not at the front of the face) and has very thick, fleshy lips. A key sucker trait.
- This sucker is noticeably elongated compared to most suckers, with a slightly humped or elevated back between the head and the dorsal fin.
